Top 5 Best Football Teams In The World (2023 Ranking)

This is the list of the best soccer teams in the world in 2023.

I have scored nearly 13,500 domestic football teams in the world on a scale between zero and 100 with the help of Opta power ranking.

With this global ranking system, I can compare football clubs across Europe to the best in Brazil and Japan, Belgium and Argentina, Switzerland and Qatar, Hungary and Ukraine, and even Uruguay and Sweden.

Here’s the table of the 10 best soccer teams in the world in 2023;

1. Manchester City FC

Manchester City FC

Manchester City F.C. is the best football team in the world right now.

And they are one of the most successful football teams in England with thirty-two major domestic and European honors, the club ranks fifth on the list of the most decorated sides in England, surpassing the achievements of Tottenham Hotspur (26) and trailing behind Chelsea (34).

Manchester City’s triumphs date back to their early years, with their first major trophy, the 1904 FA Cup, marking the beginning of an era.

Before that milestone, they had already secured three regional Manchester Cups. In 1936-37, the club clinched their inaugural top division league title, and Charity Shield victory.

The 1969-70 season brought them not just their first League Cup but also a European triumph, as they celebrated an extraordinary double. Also, they accomplished what no other team had done before in the 2018-19 season.

They became the first club to claim all the major English trophies available in a single campaign, emerging victorious in the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and the Community Shield.

Not stopping at domestic success alone, their first European triumph came in the 1970 Cup Winners’ Cup, where they won over Górnik Zabrze with a scoreline of 2-1.

While they experienced heartbreak in their first-ever Champions League final in 2021, Manchester City emerged triumphant in 2023, defeating Inter Milan 1-0 to secure their maiden continental treble.

This achievement made them the best football club in 2023.

2. FC Bayern Munich

FC Bayern Munich

Ranking second with an impressive rating of 95.9, FC Bayern Munich is a force to be reckoned with in the game.

Under Julian Nagelsmann, the club achieved great success, winning ten consecutive Bundesliga titles with a 3-1 victory over their arch-rivals in Der Klassiker.

However, the Champions League show for Bayern was disappointing. For the second consecutive year, the team suffered elimination at the quarter-finals stage, this time falling to Villarreal.

On March 24, 2023, Nagelsmann was released from his managerial duties, paving the way for the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, who signed a contract until June 30, 2025.

The Tuchel era at Bayern Munich began on March 25, 2023, as he was officially presented as the new manager during a press conference.

Bayern experienced an early exit from the DFB-Pokal, being eliminated in the quarter-finals by SC Freiburg.

Similarly, their Champions League campaign came to a halt in the quarter-finals, with Manchester City F.C. proving to be their nemesis.

Despite these challenges, Tuchel guided Bayern to its 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.

They secured the championship, defeating 1. FC Köln to edge out a fierce competition with Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling title race. This success coincided with some major changes behind the scenes.

Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic were dismissed from their roles, with Jan-Christian Dreesen stepping in as the new CEO, while the search for a new sporting director continued.

3. Liverpool

Liverpool

Surprisingly, Liverpool ranked third with a rating of 93.8 being one of the best football clubs in 2023. Without a doubt, they are one of the most valuable and widely supported teams in the world.

The 2022-23 season marked the club’s 131st season and their 61st consecutive campaign in the top flight of English football. Competing in the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and UEFA Champions League.

The season began on a positive note as Liverpool secured a 3-1 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.

This triumph not only positioned them as their 16th Community Shield but also marked their 68th official trophy, setting an English record.

It was a significant achievement for manager Jürgen Klopp, as it completed his collection of all available first-tier trophies with Liverpool.

However, despite coming close to a quadruple the previous season, Liverpool’s 2022-23 campaign turned out to be a disappointment.

Inconsistent form in the Premier League hindered their title aspirations, while early exits in both domestic cups added to their frustrations.

The Champions League also ended in disappointment, with a 2-5 loss to Real Madrid at Anfield followed by a 0-1 defeat at the Bernabéu. Liverpool’s struggles continued as they couldn’t secure a top-four finish in the league.

Despite an impressive 11-game unbeaten run towards the end of the season, including seven consecutive victories, they finished in fifth place. This marked the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

The 2022-23 season also marked the departure of key players. Sadio Mané transferred to Bayern Munich, ending his successful tenure at Liverpool, while Divock Origi departed for AC Milan.

Furthermore, the contracts of Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keïta were confirmed not to renew his contract.

Napoli’s triumph came in the form of their third Serie A title, an achievement accomplished with five matches to spare. This victory is their first top-league title since the historic 1989-90 season.

The success boomed through the hearts of Napoli fans, who celebrated the long-awaited triumph. They also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their storied existence.

This feat shows the club’s growth and its ability to compete in European football. However, the season is also the departure of two key players.

5. Inter Milan

Inter Milan

With a rating of 93.5, Inter Milan claims the fifth spot in the ranking of the world’s best football teams in 2023. Inter Milan’s 2022/2023 campaign was filled with triumphs and near misses.

Plus their participation in the Serie A, the club competed in the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana, and the UEFA Champions League.

They came out victorious in the Coppa Italia, winning the trophy, and they also won the Supercoppa Italiana. However, it was their outing in the UEFA Champions League that truly caught my interest.

They challenged the odds and advanced to the final of the tournament, where they faced off against Manchester City. A feat they hadn’t achieved since 2010.

Despite their effort, they narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy, suffering a 0-1 defeat. As Inter Milan looks ahead to the future, they aim to build on the successes of the 2022-23 season.
